one sings out “o bou (hey wife)!”
the other replies,
“khoka hok… khoka hok…
(let it be a boy)”
they keep singing to each other
I sit down under the tree
enchanted and exhilarated,
and a part of my heart wonders,
if those golden birds
actually meant what they were saying,
in human tongue!
I love benebou birds- hooded orioles, they are such beautiful creatures and their call is simply amazing, it is so very sweet!
They sing a lot at spring, on other seasons they don’t sing this much. There is a shirish tree near my window and they often have a singing competition there. To my sheer delight!
